DISBURSEMENT OF ITEMS TO PWDs IN BEREKUM EAST MUNICIPAL

On Thursday, December 18, 2025, the Berekum PWD Rehabilitation Center in the Bono Region buzzed with hope, gratitude, and celebration as the Berekum East Municipal Assembly, under the dynamic leadership of Hon. Hajia Fatimatu Abubakar, the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), organized a heartfelt disbursement of essential items to Persons with Disabilities (PWDs).

The event, held at the center, brought together dozens of beneficiaries, assembly officials, social welfare officers, community leaders, and representatives from the Disability Fund Management Committee. It formed part of the assembly's ongoing commitment to social inclusion, empowerment, and improving livelihoods through the District Assemblies Common Fund (DACF) allocation dedicated to PWDs.

Hon. Hajia Fatimatu Abubakar, who personally led the ceremony, addressed the gathering with warmth and encouragement. She emphasized the assembly's dedication to ensuring no one is left behind in the development agenda. "Today is about dignity, opportunity, and self-reliance," she said. "These items are not just tools—they are seeds for independence, income generation, and brighter futures for our brothers and sisters with disabilities. We will continue to work tirelessly to support and uplift every member of our community."

The distributed items were carefully selected to support various livelihood activities and daily needs. Beneficiaries received practical equipment such as sewing machines for tailoring ventures, fufu pounding machines to ease household labor, refrigerators and chest freezers for small-scale preservation and sales businesses, wheelchairs for improved mobility, bags of charcoal, assorted provisions, and other essential aids. These resources, drawn from the PWD Common Fund, aim to enable recipients to start or expand small enterprises, reduce dependency, and contribute meaningfully to their families and the local economy.

The atmosphere was filled with joy as recipients expressed profound appreciation. Many shared emotional testimonies, noting how the support would transform their lives—allowing them to pursue vocations like dressmaking, food vending, or petty trading more effectively. One beneficiary remarked, "This machine gives me hope. I can now work from home and provide for my children without relying solely on others."

The event also highlighted the collaborative spirit between the municipal assembly, the Department of Social Welfare and Community Development, and PWD groups. Officials urged beneficiaries to make good use of the items, maintain them well, and submit progress reports to ensure sustainable impact and future support.

Under Hon. Hajia Fatimatu Abubakar's stewardship, the Berekum East Municipal Assembly continues to prioritize vulnerable groups, aligning with national goals of equity and inclusion. The December 18 disbursement stands as a shining example of compassionate leadership and community-focused governance, inspiring hope that Berekum East is building a more inclusive and supportive society for all its residents.
