WORKS DEPARTMENT

RESPONSIBILITIES:

The department performs the following duties:

1. Assist the Assembly to formulate policies on works within the framework of national policies
2. Assist to establish and specify the programmes of actions necessary for the implementation of physical plans
3. Advises the Assembly on matters relating to works in the municipal
4. Assists to prepare tender documents for all civil works projects to be undertaken by the Assembly through contracts or community initiated projects
5. Facilitates the construction, repair and maintenance of; public roads including feeder roads, drains along any streets in the major settlements in the district, advise on the construction, repairs, maintenance and diversion or alteration of the course of any street
6. Encourages and facilitate maintenance of Public buildings and facilities in the district
7. Assists to build, equip, close and maintain markets and prohibit the erection of stalls in places other than the markets
8. Assist to peg and demarcate all physical developments prepared for all major settlements in the district
9. Facilitate the provision of adequate and wholesome supply of potable water for the entire district
10. Assist to inspect projects undertaken by the District Assembly with relevant Departments of the Assembly advise the Assembly on the prohibition of: (i) digging of burrow pits or other excavations, and (ii) the sinking of wells or their closure
11. Assist to maintain public buildings made up of offices, residential accommodation and ancillary structure
12. Provide technical and engineering assistance on works undertaken by the Assembly; (0) facilitate the registration and maintenance of data on public buildings, and (p) in consultation with Electricity Company of Ghana facilitate the provision of street lighting. (q) Advise and encourage owners of premises to; (i) Remove or trim trees, shrubs or hedges which interfere with traffic, wires or works on any street; (ii) Remove dilapidated structures or fences in any public place (iii) Paint, distemper, white wash or colour wash the outside of any building forming part of the premises; (iv) Tidy up the premises; and (v) Remove any derelict vehicles or objects which constitute nuisance
13. Protection or prevention of obstructing access to fire hydrants; (s) provide technical advice for the machinery and structural layout of building plans to facilitate escape from fire, rescue operation and fire management;

DEVELOPMENT CONTROL PROCESS

• Application letter, approved site plan, allocation letter from (B.T.C) by physical planning dept.                                           Submission of completed drawing, approved site plan, allocation letter. jacket purchase.

• Submission of vetted drawings to physical planning department, for the organization of technical committee and spatial planning meetings.

• Collection of approved and signed drawings.

ERECTION OF TEMPORAL STRUCTURE PROCESS/DEMOLITIONS

• Application from applicant, indicating the need for the structure
• Submission of block plans, drawings of structure and consent letter
• Application go through approval and endorsement
• Payment of permit fee and Application  Form A
• Collection of permit by applicant
