PROFILE OF THE DEPT OF SOCIAL WELFARE AND COM.DEVT-BEREKUM EAST MUN. ASSEMBLY
EXECUTIVE SUMMARY:
The Department of Social Welfare and Community Development is one of the Decentralized Departments. Its mandate is to work with the disadvantaged, vulnerable and excluded in their communities and in groups by integrating them into the mainstream of socio-economic development. This is done in collaboration with Government and Non-Governmental Organization (NGOs).
In other to realize the above, the Department undertakes many activities which fall under three (3) core programme namely:
1. Justice Administration (J.A)
2. Child Rights Promotion and Protection (CRPP)
3. Community Care (CC).
SOME OF THE ACTIVITIES UNDER JUSTICE ADMINISTRATION ARE:
1. Writing of Social enquiry reports-SERs for the court.
2. Probation Service-Supervision.
3. Court work with the family tribunal.
4. Adoption and fosterage
5. Registration of fit persons among others
6. Prison Aftercare Service.
ACTIVITIES UNDER CHILD RIGHTS PROMOTION AND PROTECTION ARE:
1. Registration and supervision of day care centers
2. Running of children’s Home/Orphanage
3. Casework with Families
4. Child survival and Development
5. Child Custody and paternity
ACTIVITIES UNDER COMMUNITY CARE
1. Work/Service with persons with Disabilities (PWDS)
2. Hospital Welfare Services
3. Work with NGOs
4. Personal Welfare Services
5. Citizen Advisory Bureau
6. Livelihood Empowerment Against Poverty (LEAP).
7. Mass Education or Social Education.
8. Income Generation for women.
9. Community Water and Sanitation.
